Description

The GE SR489-P5-LO-A1 is an advanced generator protection relay for synchronous machines up to 600 MVA. It provides comprehensive fault detection (87G/40/46/32/51V), loss-of-field (40) protection, and breaker failure (50BF) logic. Includes synchrophasor measurement (IEEE C37.118), FlexLogic™ programmable functions, and 100% stator ground fault protection via 3rd harmonic neutral.

⚠️ Critical Integration Notes:

  • CT Saturation: Use TPS-class CTs for 87G – ≤5% ratio error at 20×In.
  • Neutral Grounding: 3rd harmonic stator ground requires high-Z NGR (>400Ω).
  • LO Logic: Configure load boundaries using R-X diagram (avoid Zone 3 miscoordination).
  • Breaker Failure Scheme: Requires 52a/b contacts for initiation.
  • IEC 61850 Setup: Assign unique MAC/IP before energizing (defaults cause conflicts).
  • Vibration Sensitivity: Mount away from switchgear >1.5m – false trips may occur.
